Experience the vintage ambiance of Ireland's Oldest Shop.
Jeremiah Higgins is Ireland's oldest shop. Since 1820, it has been passed from generation to generation; father to son/daughter. It has seen many important events, such as the 1916 Easter Rising, the first and second World Wars and 'The Troubles' of Northern Ireland. Not much has changed since then. We try to preserve as much as possible in order to bring old Ireland into modern Ireland. Read more about our History
A connected town
Claremorris is located on the N17 roadway. There is a train station and several bus stops nearby. We are located on Main Street, approximately 50m from Market Square. We are also around 20 minutes from Ireland West Airport Knock.
A haven for tourism
We are lucky to be located next to some of the most desirable tourist destinations along the Wild Atlantic Way. We are a stone's-throw from Galway and Ashford Castle (a country estate awarded "World's Best Hotel" in 2015). If you're planning on heading North, going from our area will allow you to see the stunning coast as well as Lissadell House (home of countess Markievicz) and the grave of famed writer, William Butler (W.B) Yeats in County Sligo.
