Visit

Jeremiah Higgins is Ireland's oldest shop, established in 1820. For over two centuries, it has been passed down through generations, preserving its unique character and history. The shop has borne witness to significant events, including the 1916 Easter Rising, the First and Second World Wars, and 'The Troubles' in Northern Ireland. Little has changed since its founding, as we strive to maintain its heritage and bring the past into the present.

A Connected Location

Claremorris is conveniently situated on the N17 roadway, with a train station and several bus stops nearby. Our shop is located on Main Street, approximately 50 meters from Market Square, and a 20-minute drive from Ireland West Airport Knock.

Positioned near some of the most celebrated destinations along the Wild Atlantic Way, we are a short drive from Galway and Ashford Castle, a renowned country estate awarded "World's Best Hotel" in 2015. For those traveling north, the journey offers stunning coastal views and landmarks such as Lissadell House, the home of Countess Markievicz, and the resting place of the celebrated poet William Butler (W.B.) Yeats in County Sligo.
